Clearing a Polygon with Two 1-Searchers

چکیده
We present an algorithm for a pair of pursuers, each with one flashlight, searching for an unpredictable, moving target in a 2D environment (simple polygon). Given a polygon with n edges and m concave regions, the algorithm decides in time O(n + nm + m) whether the polygon can be cleared by the two 1-searchers, and if so, constructs a search schedule. The pursuers are allowed to move on the boundary and in the interior of the polygon. They are not required to maintain mutual visibility throughout the pursuit.

Self-Stabilizing Meeting in a Polygon by Anonymous Oblivious Robots
The Meeting problem for k ≥ 2 searchers in a polygon P (possibly with holes) consists in making the searchers move within P , according to a distributed algorithm, in such a way that at least two of them eventually come to see each other, regardless of their initial positions. The polygon is initially unknown to the searchers, and its edges obstruct both movement and vision. Depending on the sh...

متن کاملSearching a Polygonal Region from the Boundary
Polygon search is the problem of nding unpredictable mobile intruders in a polygonal region using one or more mobile searchers with various levels of vision, where both the searcher and intruders are allowed to move freely within the region. In this paper we consider a variant of this problem, termed boundary search, in which a single searcher has to nd the intruders from the boundary of the re...
متن کاملSearching for mobile intruders in circular corridors by two 1-searchers
We consider the problem of searching for a mobile intruder in a circular corridor by three mobile searchers, who hold one flashlight, a variation of the 1-searcher problem in a circular corridor. A circular corridor is a polygon with one polygonal hole such that its outer and inner boundaries are mutually weakly visible. The 1-searcher has a flashlight and can see only along the ray of the flas...
متن کاملGraph Searching with Advice
Fraigniaud et al. (2006) introduced a new measure of difficulty for a distributed task in a network. The smallest number of bits of advice of a distributed problem is the smallest number of bits of information that has to be available to nodes in order to accomplish the task efficiently. Our paper deals with the number of bits of advice required to perform efficiently the graph searching proble...
